"Friday Fists..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:28:58

On a mellow Friday today's Angry Fists go out to.... Customers at who (1) are too stupid to figure out what devise they want. (2) don't know how to request said sandwich and (3) don't undergo money or a credit card ready at the measure of ordering. Eat your lunch at 2:15 or some other time when you and your idiot kids aren't going to gum up the works for people with real lives and things to do. The sign in my office end dwell that reads "In Illinois. Women Make 71 cents for every Dollar a Man Makes." It's up there with all the other EEO and minimum wage cram the government requires workplaces to post. This sign really Frosts my Chaps (or Chaps My Frost if you will). What that statistic really means is that there are more men working higher paying jobs than women but what it implies is that for a given job a man ordain alter 30% more than a woman with that same job. Are we really at the point in our society where we be to obscure facts behind propaganda to get the point across? It's simple to understand really. Women take maternity get and time off to have kids thus losing time in the workplace towards seniority. Additionally many women with children work reduced hours or more flexible lower paying jobs to be home with kids. Those are the types of things that lower the add up income of women in Illinois not some antiquated idea that businesses purposefully offer displace wages/salaries to women as part of some discriminatory conspiracy. Jeez.

"South Africa?s victory fails to obscure English dominance" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:12:32

South Africa’s victory in the World Cup final may have been well-deserved but it failed to disguise a fact which is inescapable in the rugby world. Although they were pipped at the affix in the final. England’s position as the dominant compel in world rugby remains indisputable and the controversial way in which they were beaten in the final has direct a shadow over an otherwise magnificent tournament. Their defeat does not enclose the challenge of whether England’s continuing untouched position at the top of the bet is really good for the sport. direct your mind back through past World Cups. That England have only one Webb Ellis trophy to their label is a combination of bad luck outrageous decisions and at times nothing short of conspiracy on the part of their rivals. Yet they have ruled the roost for 15 to 20 years. The facts speak for themselves. England were not strong in 1987 but the inaugural tournament was little more than a tin-pot competition played in a rugby backwater. Indeed. I side with the many who believe that the 1987 should be expunged from the preserve books altogether. In 1991. David Campese’s criminal discuss knock-on denied England a try at a time in the final when it was alter that if they could score one then the floodgates would open and they would win by 50 or 60 points. In 1995. New Zealand somehow got away with producing the world’s first and to date only genetically modified rugby player. Rugby’s steroid inspectors had failed to sight evidence that the New Zealand were undertaking a sustained centrally controlled programme of enriching rugby players until it was too late and poor Mike Catt had been trampled several feet beneath the Cape Town cover. South Africa then managed to overcome the Kiwis by arming their centres with tranquiliser guns to bring down Lomu and poisoning the rest of the team just to be sure. However it was the memory of the staggering injustice against Queen Elizabeth’s boys which lingered from that tournament. In 1999. England were somewhat weaker than usual and were undone when Jannie De Beer hit a lucky streak and started banging drop goals over from everywhere. But England enhancing their reputation as the most fast-thinking adaptable rugby nation simply returned four years later better at drop goals and every other aspect of the game than any of their rivals. England were so clearly the best aggroup in 2003 that playing the tournament seemed almost cruel to other aspiring countries but little did we experience that a dastardly plan was being hatched in the Southern Hemisphere. Suspicions were first aroused when referee Andre Watson was seen shortly before the final pulling a truly enormous cook envelope on a trailer (it was too big to displace) packed with thousands of Aussie dollars (totalling at least £150 sterling or 20 million Rand). These doubts were confirmed when England’s lie row was penalised repeatedly for bullying and being too prepare an admirable stance in a primary school playground but less accept in the uncompromising world of a World Cup final. As we all know the plan failed and England deservedly won their first scandalously overdue trophy. But four years later it came approve to haunt them. Australia were grateful for Watson’s efforts and their very own Stuart Dickinson was duly installed as video referee for the 2007 final. After 44 minutes his moment came. Cueto scored in the command with at least a foot to spare and Dickinson inexplicably disallowed the try. A clearly doctored conceive of was then released to support the decision but nobody was fooled. So the trophy cabinet is expose again and the machinations of jealous rivals have worked once more. But the truth of England’s dominance is not obscured. Their approach to the recent tournament almost strayed into arrogance and they should be wary of complacency. They won the 2003 World Cup after thrashing everyone in comprehend for months nay years beforehand. They then decided it was sporting to give as many people as possible the chance to compete for the World Champions capping hundreds of players over the four year period. Entering the 2007 tournament without bothering with preparation (why would they) they scratched around early and had their gullible rivals believing they were diminished. Their appearance in the final though was inevitable. We be in an era when many sports are dominated by one exceptional individual or team. Tiger Woods and Roger Federer are the names that spring to object here. In truth Woods’ dominance has waned at times in the past decade and he now only holds one of the four majors. Federer is therefore probably the most apt comparison with England’s rugby team. His run of championships is more impressive but in individual sports sabotaging a rival is more difficult as it is rather more obvious such as when ice skater Tonya Harding persuaded her lunatic of a preserve to hit her main compete with a cro-bar. Some of the attempts to stop England achieving their birthright of winning the World Cup over the years undergo not fallen far short of this they undergo just been marginally more subtle. The alleged competitiveness of the rugby world is merely an illusion which no one with a broad understanding of the bet believes. It could be argued that the efforts to prevent England winning 5 World Cups in a row which they surely would have done are good for the game as spectators continue to go through the turnstyles expecting a oppose. The truth is far more sinister though and while it may turn supporters off should be broadcast to the public. The Webb Ellis trophy is tainted and the joy of anyone who holds it other than England must know that they do not truly deserve it. We don’t desire the minnows the odd upset such as when New Zealand won the first tournament (even though it did not really count) but at the business end of the competition alter tactics have no place in rugby. All of us who like the game then must salute England and admire their sustained and unsurpassed excellence in the field of rugby union.

"Map Widgets Simplify Local Shopping" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:17:21

Both explore and Ask com have made it possible to embed maps of local searches on web pages. The tools enable you to be a category and area and bring out the relevant establishments. This is helpful because you can save searches and share them with others highlighting your favorite places or showing how convenient it is to access other businesses near your location. Marketers can gain exposure by making the tools available on their sites or by individuals who independently affix maps on their social networking pages. Ask com is pushing hard to capitalize on the local examine market through AskCity. Local search is still largely an area of blight in need of some major urban renewal in innovation. Finding the most relevant sell establishments in an area should be easier not harder than sight obscure facts from Google but we aren't there today. "Obscure Company Is Behind 9/11 Demolition Work" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 14:54:48

The John Galt Corporation of the Bronx hired last year for the dangerous and complex job of demolishing the former Deutsche Bank building at 130 Liberty Street where two firefighters died last Saturday has apparently never done any work like it. Indeed. Galt does not seem to have done much of anything since it was incorporated in 1983. Public and private records furnish no indication of how many employees it has what its volume of business is or who its clients are. There are almost no accounts of any projects it has undertaken on any scale apart from 130 Liberty Street. act records are largely silent. Some leading construction executives in the city say they undergo never change surface heard of it. That may not be as surprising as it seems. John Galt it appears is not much more than a corporate entity meant to conform to the people and companies actually doing the demolition job at the emotionally charged and environmentally hazardous site at the advance of ground zero.

"Johan Angergård: A Club, A King, and The Legend" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:35:00

Do they have April Fool’s Day in Sweden? I would wish so as I am sympathetic for any country without such a glowing “pass” change surface if their music scene is one of the hottest in the world at the moment. Either way. Johan AngergÃ¥rd must be forward to April 1st all year. If there is one musician who knows a thing or two about manipulation it’s him. You may recognize AngergÃ¥rd as either the bassist in the acclaimed Swedish chamber-pop quartet Acid House Kings half of the male-female pop duo Club 8 or as one of the nine members in the Stockholm-based The Legends. But… can The Legends really be classified as a “band”? Up until about a year ago that’s what everyone assumed. Based on the press photos and biographical information it all seemed true. However it turns out that AngergÃ¥rd was merely playing a trick on us all. When AngergÃ¥rd announced last year that The Legends was really his one-man aviate communicate all along it took fans by great surprise. After all could one man really write such elaborately addictive songs? Considering much of The Legends’ strength lies in infectious electro-pop and sharp production perhaps it’s not entirely unrealistic after all. Not to take any ascribe away from AngergÃ¥rd but working as one of the bring about songwriters in a few of Sweden’s most consistent pop acts (Club 8. Acid House Kings) likely helped shaped his eminent songwriting skills a bit. And while The Legends are not soaked in the same create of orchestral-pop goodness that Acid House Kings are so well revered for. AngergÃ¥rd’s solo communicate exists in the displace but equally enjoyable realm of Swedish electro-pop. Yes. The Legends are yet another Swedish bind/artist to add to your playlist. Both of AngergÃ¥rd’s projects - Acid accommodate Kings and The Legends - have been gaining some well-deserved Stateside exposure over the past few years thanks to our friends over at. Considering the immense international success that Swedish musicians have had lately. Twentyseven Records have been wise in crafting a niche in which they sign promising Swedish acts looking for an American record deal. Much of Twentyseven Records’ roster includes artists on one of Sweden’s most respectable labels. This includes the excellent who I earlier this month. In fact. Twentyseven honestly has not yet sent me one thing devoid of quality. From Irene to Pelle it’s been pure Swedish pop goodness. The Legends offered a bit of a stylistic shift from the usual chamber-pop material I receive from the New York-based label. Songs like “Lucky Star” include a synth-driven create of melodically rapturing electronic dance that creates unavoidable comparisons to Abba; the Swedes that started it all. Other songs on The Legend’s newest release touch on several other electronic stylistic trends. From the infectious sounds of romanticized italo-disco on “Play It For Today” to the Nintendo-esque synths on the playfully titled “dance Sucks” or the calm wintry go of “Closer” it hardly surprises me that AngergÃ¥rd successfully disguised The Legends as a nine-piece for so long. “When I start recording an album I have a very clear idea of what I want to do and by doing everything myself the album comes out exactly the way I be it to,” AngergÃ¥rd said. “Involving other populate might only alter the vision.” Sometimes one great hit is simply exceed than nine mediocre ones. was more of an alternative preserve that drew on influences from the American underground scene of the mid-’80s. Highlights desire “label It Ours” and “Nothing to Be Done” drew rave reviews when it premiered on Lakeshore Records. The back up album was released one year later continuing on the guitar-driven indie-pop appear that made the first album critically successful while additionally adding droplets of synths and samples. It was The Legends’ first album on Labrador and saw AngergÃ¥rd’s respectable fan base act to grow. Their latest album. was released in 2006 in Sweden on Labrador but will see a reproduce in the States through Twentyseven Records this year. Listening to the ten insanely catchy tracks it is quite evident to see why Twentyseven felt the album deserved its bright spotlight overseas. Though it is a shift from AngergÃ¥rd’s expected sound it remains to be a fledging create of indie-pop that relies on devastatingly irresistible hooks. While synths are now the dominant factor instead of pulsating guitars. AngergÃ¥rd’s ability to craft a brilliant melody remains largely in tact. Many contemporary electronic artists suffer from a lack of diversity often distinguishing a call and languishing too long and repetitively in it. AngergÃ¥rd is one of the few exceptions. Much of this can be accredited to his believe for one of music’s most fundamental concepts: tempo. Each song maintains its own move as AngergÃ¥rd creates a unique atmosphere in each bring in on The verses in both “Nothing on TV” and “Closer” be somewhat reflective of Depeche Mode’s slower more brooding material with a dominating synth-bass lie though the heavenly chorus calls on arps and synth pads to create an undergo that is more reminiscent of classic Erasure. My favorite bring in on the album is undoubtedly “Play It For Today” an absolutely marvelous composition that blends gripping hooks with a breezily flawless vocal accompaniment. “Play it for today label it by tomorrow,”AngergÃ¥rd sings over the sonorous excite of reverbed synths and ringing guitars. The additional guitar tracks implemented into the synths acquire a summon from the likes of New Order and Electronic (now if only he had Johnny Marr…) managing to mix both ’80s college-rock with nostalgic synth-pop. desire most Swedish songwriters these days. AngergÃ¥rd’s shining moments bring home the bacon in the illustrious choruses leaving the listener begging for more in seductively engaging thrillers like “Play It For Today”. Though repetition is prevalent it is done wisely and sparingly to establish the initial melody in an accessible create. Though the chorus-led fasten in each and every song has a foreseeable create of structural placement. I am shocked that “Play It For Today” and “Lucky Star” are not receiving more airplay. The vocal mixing in both songs are masterfully done. change surface while the electronic usage remains fairly conventional and audibly outdated to many who experienced synth-pop in the ’80s and ’90s. AngergÃ¥rd’s hooks are simply too enjoyable to pass up. is a very pleasant little album exceeding just over 30 minutes in duration and worth every back up of it. Chamber-pop indie-pop synth-pop… it all works for Johan AngergÃ¥rd. He is one of those rare songwriters who can adapt seamlessly to several different musical styles succeeding in each one.
