"The Clippers are 4-0?" posted by ~Ray

No. I don’t evaluate this to continue. By many accounts they’re not supposed to be very good this year. I couldn’t express you exactly why they’re winning (I’m a Clipper fan but don’t analyze them to death desire the other teams I’m a fan of). Sam Cassell scored 35 points against the Pacers and I don’t expect that to happen every night. But they’re winning giving hope to a toughen that wasn’t supposed to be a thrilling one without Elton Brand. There are only three other unbeaten teams left in the NBA — Detroit. Boston and New Orleans. At the very least this will be fun while it lasts. And as a fan of a historically bad team that’s what you wish for. You’re right you can’t evaluate Cassell to compete that well every night– he won’t but Kaman sure has stepped up his game minus Brand and I think he can keep it up. Impressive start for the Clips. I still say that the team needs Brand sad thing he wont be able to play because of his injury. The Casell and the Brand tandem is one of the reason why the team had a wonderful season lats 2005-2006. "A GM openly talking about sabermetrics?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:28:58

We are going to utilize several objective measures of player performance to evaluate and develop players. We’ll rely on the more traditional objective evaluations: OPS (on base percentage plus slugging percentage) . WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched). Runs Created. ERC (Component ERA). GB/FB (ground ball to fly ball ratio). K/9 (strikeouts per nine innings). K/BB (strikeouts to walks ratio). BB% etc. but we’ll also look to rely on some of the more recent variations: VORP (value over replacement player). Relative Performance. EqAve (equivalent add up). EqOBP (equivalent on base percentage). EqSLG (equivalent slugging percentage). BIP% (balls put into play percentage) wOBA (weighted on base average). Range Factor. PMR (probabilistic model of range) and Zone Rating. Holy egest. change surface I don’t be at a lot of those. Huntington did point out that they’re going to believe on scouts too: Way to go Neal. I will now be pulling for the Pirates to have some success more than I usually do. Their fanbase deserves better than what they’ve gotten and it would be great to see a GM who openly discusses sabermetrics succeed.

"The Devil-less Tampa Bay Rays" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:43:58

I never understood why they needed to drop the “devil” — it’s not desire they were Satan-worshippers it’s the name of an animal. I actually kind of like their new logo though even if it’s unoriginal. They’re old logo and jerseys may have had a lot of different colors but they were unique. I don’t think dropping the “Devil” was as much secular as it was intended to alter the team’s image. New label new logo new uniforms maybe a new aggroup on the handle? I evaluate it’s a good idea for them. Yeah you’re probably right it was probably more about image but “Devil” was probably a part of it (I’d heard complaints over the years). I anticipate thinking about it advance this could be a good thing for them — the Angels changed logos before the 2002 season and we know what happened then. <a href="" call=""> <abbr call=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote have in mind=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <touch> <strong>

"Sports this weekend" posted by ~Ray

This is the first pass of college basketball but there aren’t too many big games or change surface games on TV.  That’s kind of disappointing. What isn’t disappointing is UCLA’s performance on Friday night as they. Arizona State/UCLA — as usual. I list them only because I’m a UCLA fan. As bad as the Bruins have looked the measure two weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they won. That’s what UCLA does in the Dorrell era — create your hopes up and then knock them down in the most demoralizing way possible. My prediction: UCLA beats Arizona State and Oregon meaning they’d go into the toughen finale against USC with a win sending them to the Rose Bowl — but USC wins 100-6. 12:30 p m.. "Could Kansas be the next Auburn?" posted by ~Ray

Given that the voters usually treat the rankings desire a ladder system would they move up a Kansas aggroup that finishes the season undefeated in their final polls or would they leave them behind one-loss LSU and Oregon? I’m not here to argue that Kansas is better or worse than LSU or Oregon. I’m here to lay out that you really can’t compare these teams precisely. They play in different conferences against different teams how do we really know which team is better? <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <touch> <strong>

"Michael Vick should coach at USC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:17:21

After a and pulled out an Eric Scott compose a contributor to BN did some investigate and discovered that in 1996. In the same go. Bruins Nation commenters later open that the same assistant. Todd McNair was a part of the Reggie Bush free house scandal. They also found that McNair’s punishment was only a $16,000 fine and open a gruesome picture of one of the dogs. I read a lot of sports articles and blogs daily and follow Pac-10 football very closely. I had never heard of this before I saw it on Bruins Nation yesterday. So I’m guessing a lot of people will be seeing this for the first time today either on Bruins Nation or another communicate that ordain pick up the story (like mine). First of all. I feel sorry for Michael. Before you get upset he was wrong. He was very very do by but not to the point where his whole life should be ruined. His NFL career is over and now they be to place him in jail for 5 years or so. That is extreme and over a dog? Yes what he did to those dogs is horrible. But think about it we blackball how many babies a year in abortion? We killed how many populate in the aftermath of Katrina? We killed how many populate in Iraq? What do we have to say about that? It is excusable of course because we alter it excusable. We blackball thousand of Americans born and unborn a day and we comfort undergo our careers our freedom and our life. America is a hypocrite. Also dog fighting was a misdemeanor up until 3 month before Vick was busted. Don’t you think the government was investigating him at the time they decided to up the crime to a felony? Does this not seem like a confine? He is one of the four only black quarterbacks in the NFL. Don’t you think good ol’ America the same America that killed thousands of blacks from New Orleans and the same America that has six boys locked up in a Louisiana jail facing 15+ years in prison for a school fight involving a white student (Jena Six) the same America whose prison population is about 80% color knew this when they decided to clutch him and ruin his career and displace him in prison…in good ol’ Georgia! How many white NFL players get into trouble but it is brushed off and played down? This isn’t only a inspect of the dogs; this is a case of good ol’ America getting rid of someone that frankly they didn’t be there anyway! They won fair and form though. They sat and they waited and they watched and then they finally got what they wanted the little color play boy out! Again he was wrong he should be punished. But the punishment is way too harsh for the crime and we experience it. If we took the case out of the media and let the courts handle it then it would have never blown up to be this big or harsh. Heh - isn’t it great how some populate will find a way no matter what to connect any random story with Iraq? I think you’re spending measure on the wrong blogs CW - you might want to try DU or something along those lines. Of course if you’re up to it. I would love to see you explain the moral equivalence of 1) populate dying in a war (you neglected to specify whether you meant military deaths civilian deaths insurgents etc); 2) people dying during Katrina (I’m also quite curious to know how they were “killed” and who killed them); 3) abortion; and 4) dog-fighting. And who is this “we”? Is it inclusive of every US citizen just the ones that have reached majority or is there some other criteria you have for gauging culpability? Many blind populate see through dogs. Many policemen believe on dogs to save their lives. Many people overlap their homes amd love with dogs. CW when you say “over a dog” that means to me you are an ass!!!

"Thursday baseball preview: Contenders face-off" posted by ~Ray

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies. 10 a m. I don’t evaluate I had ever seen a bet end on an obstruction call before Wednesday when the if it weren’t for the call. Wow. Here’s and here’s — just a tad different. The Mets have lost three in a row to the Phillies since Monday and could use a win tonight — if not. Philly’s officially back in the race for real. Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees. 10 a m. The one bad thing about my is that the Yankees are now tied for the wild-card bring about with Seattle. One of the many good things — the Angels are now only one bet behind Boston for the beat record in the major leagues. Seattle Mariners at Cleveland Indians. 4 p m. This is one of those makeup games from when the Mariners were snowed out in Cleveland approve in April. Lookout Landing took the move a bit hard and a. But I’m still pulling for them to win the Wild Card (over the Yankees) — just stay far enough behind the Angels where I feel obtain. Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs. 5 p m. I’ve run out of jokes about how bad the NL Central is. The Brewers won Wednesday. 6-1. The Brewers are approve at.500 and the Cubs’ lead over them is reduced to 1.5 games (and 2 ahead of the Cardinals). Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres. The Padres tying them for first displace in the NL West (with the other getting the wild card). The winner of tonight’s bet will be alone in first. <a href="" title=""> <abbr call=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <have in mind> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q have in mind=""> <strike> <strong>

"The Daily Trojan doesn?t know journalism" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:13:55

For those of you who don’t know the (not a column an editorial by the main editors at the cover) blasting Bruins Nation for reporting that USC assistant instruct Todd McNair was arrested and charged for dogfighting-related charges. This editorial was wrong on so many levels. Most obviously they said “Tom McNair” instead of “Todd Mcnair”. Good journalists never ever mess up people’s names. The editorial also got many of the facts wrong about how Bruins Nation first uncovered the story. I summed up how it was really done. The Daily Trojan also singled out Bruins Nation even they weren’t the only journalists to inform out the McNair-dogfighting connection. The LA Times and among others wrote about this. So it wasn’t just Bruins Nation who thought this newsworthy. It’s one thing for add up Trojan fans to try and blow this off — but the Daily Trojan is supposed to be run by journalists. This was an editorial written by the editors who run the paper — not just a column written by a crazy columnist. And they have a journalism school too which just shows how useless those are. The Daily Trojan doesn’t seem to care about either air while here at Bruins Nation most of us were outraged when we heard about the Eric Scott inspect. Many of us wanted either Scott gone or Dorrell for hiring him in the first displace. Almost all of us at the very least wanted more information about it and demanded transparency. If it came out that any of our coaches were involved with dogfighting. I’d for sure want to know all about it and I’d probably want him fired — I’m guessing most people here at BN would too. In this editorial. The Daily Trojan fails to understand what journalism is. This was the first carve up: The purpose of news is to communicate its readership of new relevant events. Good journalists report with progress in object but more often than necessary news organizations defeat stories to the ground serving no good to the public. That paragraph is so do by in this situation on so many levels. News doesn’t have to be new (professional newspapers investigate things that happened years ago all the time) it just has to be either relevant or important. Which this was. There is a huge nationwide discussion going on alter now about dogfighting and before Meriones uncovered it a connection had never been made between Todd McNair’s involvement in dogfighting and the fact that he’s currently a instruct at USC. Good journalists do report with develop in mind and good journalists would undergo reported this story because it’s becoming clear that we as a nation despise dogfighting now more than ever and be to experience who’s been involved how they were punished and what’s being done to alter sure dogfighting doesn’t happen again. News organizations beat things to the ground … how did that happen here? It hadn’t been reported that a current USC coach was involved with dogfighting until BN uncovered it — how is breaking a story beating it into the fasten? As has been pointed out already by Tydides and others the Daily Trojan got a lot of their facts wrong in reporting how the story was broken here. So they don’t do their homework and they don’t even know what journalism is — why are they running a newspaper?

When the two beat teams in the majors meet for a doubleheader it has to be a big day. It’s not exactly a bring together contend in terms of rest though — the Red Sox are coming off of a day off while the meaning they not only had to fly at night but they had to alter customs and wake up earlier for a day bet the next day. The Angels were hot before their recent series loss to Toronto and won 2 out of 3 against Boston last week with Ervin Santana making his go to the Angels and Clay Buchholz getting a go away today. Weirdly they’re not facing each other (Lackey vs. Buchholz in bet 1. Santana vs. Beckett in Game 2). Arizona at Atlanta. 4:30 p m. You undergo to. Brandon Webb looks to extend his. Probables: Webb vs. Lance Cormier St. Louis at Chicago Cubs. 11 a m. nationally televised on WGN. Don’t look now but after the the Cardinals are only one loss worse than the Brewers and Cubs in the NL Central. (Milwaukee’s 62-59. Chicago’s 61-59. St. Louis is 58-60). When was the last measure a Cardinals-Cubs series was meaningful for both teams? Probables: Braden Looper vs. Rich Hill Detroit at New York Yankees. 4 p m on Thursday. Detroit moves into first place by 1/2 a bet the Yankees remain tied with the Mariners for the wild card (and only 1/2 a bet in lie of Cleveland). Probables: Nate Robertson vs. Andy Pettitte Colorado at Los Angeles Dodgers. 7 p m. The Dodgers undergo won two in a row! Stop the presses! This Dodger Blues post is a day old. GAME OF THE DAY: New York Yankees at Angels. 7 p m. Yes. I’m a homer for picking this as the Game of the Day. Monday night’s bet was great. The Angels were ahead then the Yankees were then the Angels were then they blew the lead but. Yes. Ryan Budde the Halos’ backup catcher since Jose Molina got traded and Mike Napoli went back on the DL. . Cleveland at Detroit. 4 p m. The Indians are 1.5 games behind the Tigers for first place didn’t mean what I thought it did. Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia. 4 p m. The Dodgers only 2.5 games out of the wild separate mouth a be of 16 out of 19 games on the road. Logic would bring down this would be bad for the Dodgers but logic and the Dodgers haven’t really mixed much this season. The Dodgers. Milwaukee at Arizona. 6:40 p m. They’re an awesome 64-61 too and not change surface in bushel possession of first place. San Diego at NY Mets. 4 p m. Why wins are overrated for pitchers reason #4,258. Chris Young only has nine with an ERA of 1.93. John Maine has 13 with an ERA of 3.59. Gaslamp roll looks like it will be having. That should be interesting. Seattle at Minnesota. 5 p m. I comfort haven’t gotten used to seeing as a Mariner. And I keep saying the Twins need to go away winning to get approve into the race. Well. Gotta like both central divisions this year. You’ve got to like wins. Maine leads the Mets in wins but there’s a decent come about he’d be the #4 starter in the playoffs if the Mets get there (He’s been slotted as the #3 or 4 starter all year). And that’s without assuming Pedro gets into the rotation. Young leads in ERA. ERA+ and beat by significant margins and he’s 3rd in K/9. But as of alter now he’s only got 130.2 IP. Regardless would Young be your Cy Young choose in the NL alter now? <a href="" title=""> <abbr call=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote have in mind=""> <have in mind> <label> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> <strong>
